Cross country skiing and 14 miles of horse trails are also found at the park.
But wintertime is not the only time to get out and enjoy the parks of Burnsville. Seventy nine parks are found through the Burnsville Parks Department. Almost any sport can be played at their facilities, and because the city's north border is located on the Minnesota River, swimming, boating, beaching and other water activities are available to residents of Burnsville apartments. Trails are abundant in the park system, in both the developed and the natural preserve areas of the 1800 acres of parks. Cross country skiing, hiking and mountain bike trails abound. And of course playing fields, playgrounds and picnic areas are available as well.

Interestingly enough, Burnsville has no museums; however, the Lake Alimagnet Center for the Arts is run by the city and provides community space for arts and non-profit groups. From ethnic foods and bagels and coffee to burgers and beer, there's something for everyone's appetite.
The downtown area experienced resurgence in early 2000, creating "the Heart of the City," that contains mixed use and residential buildings, with the older style of buildings mixing in with the new.
