The 4.2 million square feet of space occupied by the mall holds 520 retail spots. Opened in 1992, this "megamall" sees over 40 million visitors a year. Anchored by four department stores, Macy's, Nordstrom, Sears and of course, Bloomingdale's, the mall also features an underwater aquarium and an indoor theme park complete with roller coasters and other rides.
Besides shopping, there are additional forms of recreation for residents of Bloomington apartments in all the seasons. In the spring, summer and fall outdoor weather there are beautiful lakes and parks to enjoy boating, picnicking, game playing and hiking. In the winter months, locals can visit the Hyland Ski and Snowboard Area and enjoy indoor and outdoor ice skating at a number of locations as well as cold weather hiking and walking.
The arts are important to residents of Bloomington, both to enjoy and to participate in. The Bloomington Center for the Arts is available for teaching, learning and presentation of local artists work. It is located at the north end of the Civic Plaza.
With close to 85,000 people and the fifth largest city in Minnesota, Bloomington is part of the St. Paul-Minneapolis-Bloomington MSA with over 3.5 million people.
